We received an invitation from the organisers of Bangkok Art Bookfair Biennial and resonated with the fair’s theme on quiet revolution. We wanted to extend our invitation to our zine residents and host zine workshops and a pop-up library in our exhibitor table that engage in reflective repair and ‘copyleft’. The Shadow Library Manual is a love letter turned manual, edited and produced with Bri Wirakisimah. It is a manual to be deconstructed in a workshop and for the participants to add their own pages out of the zine scraps of Asia Art Archive’s Try Try Zine residents (Chen Mo, Jane Yan Yi Cheung, Jay Lau, Ning Ning, and Alice Tsang). Later gleaned and reused for other small programmes. I also have some in the studio now, which is probably a lifetime supply. She bought a tonne from taiwan because it was the closest to source but she had to order more. Then the leftover is mostly given to schools and other ceramists. But while we were packing the clay into bags for distrubution we were just talking about our studios having more than we need given from other people’s studio and art projects. It takes time to process and not waste. Sow Zine Vol. 0, 種誌集0回 Highlights a zine trip in Japan, November 2024 as a zine librarian for Asia Art Archive. The zine acquisitions are also from visiting the independent artist run spaces, publisher, bookfair and bookstores in Tokyo, Yokohama, Gifu and Nagoya. Highlighted and collected zines are available in AAA's zine collection based in Hong Kong. The book making process has been the scrappy same and driven through a gift economy. At first, it was quite scarce, but then with friends and through making zines and collecting them as a librarian, I am reminded that the margins are abundantly mesmerizing.
